XenApp & XenDesktop 7.14 amplifies the flexibility of our digital workspace solution by enhancing security, extending our Microsoft value-add and continuing to deliver user experience enhancements in conjunction with our XenServer 7.2 release.
XenDesktop 7.14 is the first and only solution to deliver the Windows Continuum experience (experimental) to virtual desktops, enabling users to toggle between Windows 10 desktop and tablet mode as they move between devices. XenApp and XenDesktop 7.14 enhances IT security with new reporting capabilities that analyze app compatibility with FIPS compliance and Windows 10 Credential Guard while also introducing the new Citrix Receiver for Universal Windows Platform (UWP) that enables you to run business critical applications on the new Windows 10 S, an operating system built specifically for security and performance. Now, you can now take advantage of unique XenServer capabilities such as PVS-Accelerator, hypervisor introspection, and graphics performance with Nutanix solutions. This release introduces new license flexibility capabilities that enable a single site to host multiple licensing models and extends Provisioning Services support for Ubuntu operating systems. XenApp and XenDesktop 7.14 also includes App Layering (Unidesk) improvements, new monitoring capabilities, expands our offline use case with Desktop Player, and more.
Based on the pioneering Unidesk layering technology that Citrix acquired in January 2017, Citrix App Layering greatly simplifies application and OS management and is now included in most XenApp and XenDesktop editions for customers with active Citrix Customer Success Services Select. By combining XenApp and XenDesktop with Citrix App Layering, IT can more efficiently and securely deliver apps, desktops, data and OS layers on-premises or from leading public cloud vendors using Citrix Cloud. The layering technology “containerizes” desktop apps as virtual disks for error-free, install-free delivery to end users and package-once, update-once efficiency for IT.
XenApp Essentals, a new Citrix cloud service, will combine the simplicity of Microsoft Azure RemoteApp with the enterprise security and scale of XenApp. Microsoft and Citrix, as part of our broad partnership, are developing the next generation of the Azure RemoteApp service. The new XenApp Essentials service will build upon Microsoft’s vision of Azure RemoteApp by tapping industry-leading XenApp technology to provide additional management, user experience, and security features.
The new Citrix Cloud service will simplify Windows 10 Enterprise Current Branch for Business migration, deployment and ongoing management at scale, while delivering a rich user experience via Microsoft Azure. This service will be sold exclusively through the Azure Marketplace and is the only way to host Windows 10 in a public cloud.
As announced at Citrix Synergy 2017, Citrix HDX Ready Pi will also improve user productivity on video conferences and audio calls with new Skype for Business optimizations. The HDX Ready Pi is a fully assembled thin client that includes everything you need in a single, orderable package, including being pre-installed with HDX System-on-a-Chip and Citrix Receiver optimized for GPU offloading.
